OPEN CALL for 2 ARTISTS

DANCE RELATIONSHIP RESIDENCE – OPEN CALL for 2 ARTISTS
Deadline: 30th September 2024

We are excited to announce an open call for the artist residency project “Dance Relationship”, designed for 2 individual artists who focus on the relationship between dance and music, film, or visual design. This residency invites 2 artists from 2 different countries among the  the 40 European Creative Countries (excluding Finland; see link) to collaborate on a small-scale project that merges their practices and engages with the local community of artists and dance enthusiasts, ranging from youth to elders.

Residency Period: 7th January 2025 – 7th March 2025

During these two months, the selected artists will have the opportunity to develop a small performance (approximately 15-25 minutes) where dance interacts with music or visual elements, created in synergy by the two artists. The focus will be on exploring how movement can create sound or images. The demo performance will be presented at different events organized by our local partner, Tanssiartesaani Association, such as the Winterdances Festival 2025 on 14th February in Loviisa and on 27th February in Porvoo.

About the Location:
Loviisa is a small coastal town with a bilingual community and a dynamic art scene. We aim to broaden our horizons and welcome initiatives that leave a lasting impact. The residency provides accommodation in an apartment with a single room for each artist, located in the city center, and access to a shared studio space.

Residency Benefits:

  • Free Accommodation: A shared apartment with a private room for each artist and a shared studio space.
  • Travel Expenses: Covered up to 700€ (reimbursed upon presentation of receipts).
  • Artist Fee: 1600€ (25€ per day for each participating artist) for the entire working period.

Funding:
This residency project is funded by the Creative Europe program.

Theme:
We encourage the artistic project to address the theme of Sustainability, defined as meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. This encompasses not only natural resources but also social and economic sustainability.

We encourage artists who are interested in community art and are open to creating connections with local communities. We will be happy to facilitate introductions to local partners.

Our Distinctive Focus:
Our residency emphasizes collaboration with local partners, community participation, and art in public spaces. We expect each resident artist to collaborate with a local partner, such as a professional cultural practitioner, institution, or association. We encourage all resident artists to be active in the local scene: each visiting artist must participate in at least one event where the public can meet them, and the results of the residency must be presented in Loviisa.
